Holiday reading

I thought I would be calling this blog four eyes thoughts on books n life or bookworm's books, etc.
I thought talking about all those books I read would be my back-up blog topic.
Well that would have been embarrassing as I haven't read a book since my pre-blog life.
My last read was Hunger Games Trilogy over Christmas, yes awesome and addictive.

Thank goodness for holiday and some much-needed holiday reading.
 I fit in 3.5 books.

The Engagements by J Courtney Sullivan

Great. Intertwining stories which allowed loads of very different characters. I guess it was a commentary on the wedding industry from the 50s to the present day. It also makes a girl think twice about wanting a diamond engagement ring. Why does "one"(me) want an engagement ring? Why does "one" (me) feel like it must be a diamond...9/10.

*For non-readers out there, I've just seen that Reece Witherspoon has bought the film rights for this so let her make the film of The Gone Girl and in about 5 years you'll be able to watch this and know what I've been going on about.

Operation Sunshine Jenny Colgan It was bobbins. Full of fluff. Annoyed myself by buying it, but it was from Oxfam so at least they got a donation out of it. Do not buy. No photo for it cause I don't want to put one.

I love her books. I'm a superfan. This is one of her best ones plot summary - Nazi war criminal asks granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor to kill him. The structure was so clever and as usual its the characters and their relationships with one another that are the main draw of the book. There were almost tears at the end. 10/10.

Lee Child Never Go back Halfway through. I love Jack Reacher. It was a travesty that Tom Cruise played him in a film. Reacher is twice the height of Cruise.

I need some book recommendations please.

my excuse...MEXICO

I see I have not posted since 16th March.
But that's ok as I've been having an amazing time in beautiful Mexico. No internet, no fbook.
Our first time there, but will not be our last.
I'm still fairly jet-lagged and not in my rhythm.
In the words of naughty cheating Arnie - I'll be back.... with more tomorrow.

Rita Ora nails

I had a nice day out today. For the second time in 2 weeks I was on my way to the City Centre at 10am on a Sunday morning. I was shocked and chuffed about getting my stuff together and my face on by 10 on the weekend.

By the way, I only had my stuff 50% together...had a load of laundry left to do,could have done my ironing before leaving, etc.

This is how I know I am not yet Mother material. How do they get up and out by this time 7 days a week? I love that my usual weekend routine begins at 10am.

Getting my stuff together included painting my nails.

This is Rita Ora Do Not Disturb by Rimmel. It is more teal-y than the blue the photo suggests. I like the nail colour more than I like the singer. My fingers do not look as elegant as I would like, I mean, as they are in real life. Bumma.

I think this nail colour suits my mood today. Cue quick google search. Teal is sophisticated and upscale- I felt like that til I had my first beer at about 2pm. More on today's beer drinking another time.

I am feeling tired. I am basically fighting fatigue until 10ish to avoid waking up in the early hours.

Enjoy Sunday evening, I wish it will be a "green" evening for you, "evoking tranquility and composure".

I have mostly been eating..

I love Friday.
I have been excited for hometime since I woke up!

Yesterday I forgot my snacks: a belvita and a nakd bar.
This is a nakd bar:
It tastes almost as good as chocolate orange. So nice.

This is what I had for breakfast instead:

It went down like a dream.

I had the nakd bar today and its cocoa orange flavour gave me the taste for Terrys chocolate orange. Luckily for me, Morrisons are selling off their leftover Xmas choccie orange wedges for 50p! I have had to leave them in the car to avoid gobbling the lot tonight.

As this has turned into a food post, here is yesterday's tea.

That is chicken in a tarragon sauce with sprouts, broccoli and golden savoury rice.
I made the tarragon sauce for the first time. I am not even sure if I like tarragon.

I hope you eat many nice things this weekend. Bon appetit!

It feels like Thursday.

I found these in Tesco.

70p for a sharebag. Awesome.

I did as the pack indicated and shared. I am greedy but the office is open plan :)
Anyway thats the last bag ofSstarburst I'll be having for a while. I am now too old for Starburst. They are too sharp or juicy or sugary or something. My little tastebuds cannot take it. Its a shame as Starburst/Opal Fruits are perfect for me, "taste the summer" or some other Marketing speak term. That's my season.

At the grand old age of 30 its obviously pear drops and bonbons and other old lady sweets for me.

What other horrific changes await me in the coming years?

I may take after my Dad for instance and have only 20 or so more good years of enjoying Baked beans. He no longer likes them. OMGosh!

On a separate note, I could not believe it wasn't Thursday today. Oh well, I'm over it now as its late on Wednesday. I've mostly been ploughing through with Desperate Housewives. On Series 3 now.

No yoga

I've had to move yoga to next Saturday morning due to work duties today so here we are.

When I said I was outside yesterday, I was taking a tour of Manchester in Spanish. Its part of the Viva Spanish and Latin American film festival. I can't make it to any of the films this year but the tour was good.

The tour was worth doing, I learnt a bit of history about this city. Its got a strong political background that I was ignorant about. The Pankhurst mother and daughters are Mancunions! I appreciate universal suffrage and vote.

We finished off in the Town Hall looking at the below plaque:

It commemorates the volunteers who fought against Franco in the Spanish Civil War.
It's interesting that this is on he wall in the ground floor cafe. I wonder how many people notice it?

Yesterday I really appreciated being in Manchester. I learnt about its history which has already fostered a sense of pride in my living here (especially as a self-confessed part-time Mcr hater). And it was half-empty in the centre, being in a city when its so quiet is a treat.

All the good bits are there: shops, bars, restaurants, culture, architecture, a handful of musically more or less talented people providing entertainment on the street.

The bad bits are not there: traffic jams, more than my limit of a handful of street performers, 50% more people than there were in town on Sunday.

The recipe for good times in Manchester: be there at 10.30 on a Sunday.

we've got to hold on to what we've got..

After scoffing down a Chicken Chow Mein and some ribs, Friday was spent in the company of this great man of rock n roll:
Mr Jon Bon Jovi tribute man! Doesn't he look good though?
Seen from the fifth row with all the rockers and ladies of a certain age on a girls night out.

It was really professionally done and I thought he had the mannerisms of JBJ and his voice was brilliant. The only mini downside is that they didn't sing "Someday I'll be Saturday night". A song that for about 8 weeks of my life, whilst in a job I hated, about 10 years ago, was my anthemic song on loop for the long train journey to work and back. Bittersweet memories.

I seem to be the only person who didn't feel like she was in the Med today. I was outside from 10.30 - 1pm and I could still feel the chill in the air.

Perhaps I was cold because of pre-rugby nerves. I was right to be nervous as Wales lost to England in the rugby but I half-expected it.

I also hope and expect that you have dosed up on your vitamin D levels.

Gel's night in

I had a night alone last week.
Did I make the most of it?
Shook off the day that had been torturing me via the hair grips.

Had a leftover bowl of jambalaya and to raise it up to another level a glass of Leffe. The jambalaya was just so-so. Better the first night.

Looked at my nice flowers from BBE (best boyf ever)..

And lay on the settee and watched about 4 episodes of Desperate Housewives, trawled the net for 2 hours and festered.

Lazy girl just lazying.
Girl who does not thrive with her own company.

Hope everyone had a flipping good time eating pancakes yesterday. I am still owed mine due to the boyf not being here to share. Will get there later this week. I'm not doing Lent.

Ciao LAIZEE x

its a new week

Have had a great weekend, and am having a mini comedown from such great times.

Oh wait...I've just booked Dolly Parton tickets for her UK tour in June! And I've got her on Spotify, my most recent discovery and she is making me so happy with her quality tunage. She is easing me through my Tuesday night of domestic drudgery.Screw you comedown.

Photo evidence of quality times had since we last spoke:

Happy belated St Davids Day! Patron saint of Wales, my little homeland. The blue mood lighting is from the resto who kindly provided the daffodil.

One is now the proud owner of gherkins. I love them on a burger. I might put them on my sausage/cabbage/baked pot tea tonight actually. No limits to gherkins loving. I am not pregnant.

Dinner from Saturday evening following my cocktail bar crawl. I like a daytime cocktail session. It was Oriental Sea bass with ONE pak choi leaf in tempura with noodles. The side order of fries are mine. I am glad I ordered them.

Best drink of the day. Espresso martini. My current favourite cocktail.

I wonder if I'll have a cocktail before seeing Dolly?

Take care Sunny x
